Support for Martin’s ministry as Bishop of Goma

Martin is supported through Church Mission Society (CMS) to be able to serve as Bishop of Goma. CMS relies on the support of individuals and churches to be able to support their mission partners. Since becoming bishop there are significantly increased costs related to supporting Martin. If you would like more information please get in touch and to support Martin directly the main way to give is through Martin’s page on the CMS website.

Giving directly to the church in Goma

We have been able to do so much to develop parishes, provide training and support clergy with the generous donations from individuals and churches since 2020. Thank you! The areas of our vision for the next 5 years where external financial support can continue to have the greatest impact are below. For more information please go to the overview of the diocese of Goma.

Evangelism – Our vision over the next 5 years is to plant 35 new churches across 7 archdeaconries – one new church per year in each archdeaconry. We have already started. Funding can help with portable Bible schools to equip teams of evangelists, with evangelism campaigns and with building new church buildings.

Building churches – Our strategy is to renovate old churches and plant new ones. This aim is that every one of our existing parishes has its own land (with relevant legal documents) with a church building and a pastor’s house. The diocese encourages the local believers to lay the foundations and the floor, to build the walls and provide the furniture. The Diocese then helps them with the roof which costs between £1500 and £2000.

Training – For various reasons such as poor education, hurried ordinations or simply lack of resources - we have an urgent need of training and retraining our clergy and staff in a number of priority areas: preaching, parish management, conflict-resolution, Sunday school ministry, marriage and resource-mobilisation.

Books and Bibles – we have the aim of massively increasing the number of believers in our churches who have their own Bibles and prayer books, as well as continuing to provide all theology students with a bundle of essential books when they graduate.

The easiest and most tax-efficient way to give is to visit the giving page for the Diocese of Goma. All this giving will be channelled through the Congo Church Association. All of the funds raised go directly to Goma.
